With much love and passion I design not only in the Netherlands, but also on tropical islands that have stolen my heart — such as Zanzibar. Working in these kinds of places requires a different way of thinking. You can't just import everything, so you have to be creative with what is available. It is precisely this simplicity and limitation that gives room for inventiveness and makes each design extra special.

I work with local materials, craftsmen and solutions that fit the climate and culture. Each design originates from the place itself — no standard solutions, but a unique translation of atmosphere, use and experience. I believe that good design can also be practical and refined in the tropics. The result: designs with character, courage and a deep connection with the environment.
